Explore Your Dream Kitchen

Design Your Dream Kitchen

Since 2000, the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management has offered a public workshop titled 'Explore Your Dream Kitchen'. Through involvement in this workshop, participants learn how to plan and design a kitchen that really meets their needs! The last workshop was held early in August of 2008. The workshop is designed for individuals building or remodeling a kitchen and people who want to learn more about the basics of kitchen design and new products.

During the workshop, participants explore and experience the latest ideas in design, materials, and technology in the Center for Real Life Kitchen Design as they learn:

  • To plan a kitchen that meets the needs of you and your family
  • About the principles of a well-desgined kitchen
  • About new technologies in the home and the latest in kitchen appliances
  • To plan a universally-designed kitchen to meet changing needs and abilities
  • To plan a kitchen that is a safe and healthy part of your home
  • About new products and materials

The Center for Real Life Kitchen Design has six complete kitchens, with a wide variety of designs, products, materials, and technologies. Participants explore and experience the Center during this fun and interactive workshop. The workshop instructors are Virginia Tech faculty and experts in the fields of kitchen design, universal design, and home technologies.
