Housing Option Celebrates National Awards and Student Achievements!

Spring 2009 has brought recognition to many students in the Housing Option program - Congratulations for the results of your hard work!

GE Design Charrette

A charrette is an intense period of design activity to meet a deadline. Twenty-two students in the Advanced Kitchen and Bath Design class participated in the national GE Design Charrette, along with 450 students from 28 colleges across the country. In 3 hours, students designed and drafted a kitchen plan.

 

 

 

 

 

Three semi-finalists: Katie Edwards, Traci Leonard and Trevor Sakry, received $50 scholarship prizes. Then, Katie Edwards learned that she received a $1000 scholarship as one of 10 national winners. Read More in the news release from the National Kitchen and Bath Association

 

 

 

 

 

TOTO Award

The annual TOTO/National Kitchen and Bath Association Outstanding Student Award was presented to Matthew Pittman at the Spring 2009 meeting of the Center for Real Life Kitchen Design Advisory Board. This award recognizes a graduating senior with a professional commitment to the kitchen and bath industry - and includes a $450 prize. Matt's award was presented by his advisor, Dr. Beamish.

Associate Kitchen and Bath Design Certification Exam

The Associate Kitchen and Bath Design (AKBD) Certification Exam is a rigorous 3 hour written exam of core knowledge for professionals in the kitchen and bath industry. It is the basis for the industry certification program and necessary to complete before higher level practice exams can be attempted. Recently 12 senior students in the Housing Option took the exam and all 12 passed! Congratulations to our AKBD stars:
